Looking to go a little bit further out for some incredible hiking and wineries? Check out these places about an hour Southwest of Skaneateles, near Ithaca.
Ithaca is home to Cornell University and Ithaca College and has a very progressive, nature-loving, small-town vibe. It’s filled with some of the best hiking, waterfalls, swimming holes, small businesses, and people.
- Taughannock Falls State Park — an hour from Skaneateles, this park includes a gorge trail (0.81 mile), south rim trail (1.60 mile), and north rim trail (1.44 mile) that all provide amazing fall views
- Robert H Treman State Park — an hour from Skaneateles, this state park features several hiking trails, but we'd recommend the Gorge Trail (2.12 mile) — it's a low-moderately challenging hike leading to several swimming holes, staircases, and a waterfall that you can get right under at the end (if you're trying to pick one park I'd say this is the best)
- Buttermilk Falls State Park — an hour from Skaneateles, this park includes several hiking trails and waterfall features, including the Gorge Trail (0.62 mile) and the Rim Trail (0.82 mile), which feature gorgeous waterfalls along the way
- Grab a bite to eat at one of Ithaca's local restaurants:
- The Rook — casual but gorgeous restaurant serving comfort foods, artisan cocktails, and other New American dishes (outside seating here is beautiful)
- Ithaca Bakery — marketplace-style café serving sandwiches, soups salads, fresh baked goods, and various hot foods for the taking. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating
- Mercato Bar & Kitchen — chef-owned restaurant serving fresh Italian food in cozy, upscale surroundings
